White Meat on Thanksgiving

The fugitive

Predominantly but not exclusively

vegetarian

I headed out early for

a traditional turkey dinner

Red trees on the North side

of the BART parking lot

at Rockridge

 savored again this year

On College Avenue

a charming friendly generous church

welcomes and feed all comers

between 11AM and 1 PM

I met an old pal

for the feast

Afterward what can you do?

But go home listen to music

and snooze away

the triptophane-rich turkey

as well as

pumpkin pie, stuffing, yams,

potatoes, green beans, cider,

excellent coffee

other-worldly cannabis

and just a wee brandy

A kind of interzone

as the rather still and uneventful

afternoon ensues

Then I happened to look out

to see the intense colors

of an astonishing sunset

Then the light got more intense

Thanks and praise

to God

Then as suddenly

 it peaked

and began to fade

into the past

an epiphany otherwise

fading into a vague memory

 We don't leave our bodies

and join the universe

we always are the universe
