Black Life Matters

Boots Riley Filmmaker and hometown hero

who joined the many martyrs, leaders, & other icons

seen in the murals that adorned the ubiquitous and unanimous riot boards

that line Broadway protecting business windows downtown

A positive message thrown over the Walgreens

that was looted and burned in the rioting

Now no drugstore in downtown and none for miles round

A march arrived at OPD headquarters to project a slide show

Viewed from my window

Protest hysteria

A sculpture honoring Black identity. It won't be the same after the spray paint is removed. Located in the Ron Dellums Federal building plaza where two guards were shot on the night of the first George Floyd demonstration. The perpetrators were Boogaloo Boys right wing extremists who took advantage of the situation in an attempt to discredit the people's movement

Traumatic times lead to excessive responses

Such as chopping down slender trees in the park

In order to assemble a village of flimsy would-be wigwams

It's not taking it back from the man it's staking a personal claim

scarce parks are for the use and enjoyment of all of us

A tendency toward idolatry

Certainly toward mythology
Choosing Wakanda

On weekends Old Oakland turns into Hell's Half Acre

Loud motorcycles as social dominance

 Letting it all hang out

A parade of too-loud vehicles non-stop

RIP John Lewis

fearless social justice warrior who lived to see this uprising

The largest social movement in US history

Thinkers are often marginalized as leaders

more interest in sometimes questionable martyrs

Hundreds of temporary murals inspire passers-by

Oakland on the move

Hardly anyone on the buses

BART stations and trains still nearly empty

A young lady in her New Year's Day finery

Oakland resident celebrates the Inauguration

Our first female Vice-President

Our first Black Vice-President

Maybe second Black President

There is much to celebrate

The Future is unwritten

On the right on side of history

The largest mural in town just landed
