Birthday Bay Crossing III: Back to Port

Reentry to near space anticipated
in approximately one half-hour
All systems a-go-go

 Had my sun and fun
had my smoke and lunch
chatted with strangers & children
who are never strangers unless
the parents tell them to be

I barely set foot on land but
I can say I was there
After living and working in San Francisco
I am a visitor, occasional entertainer
I always miss it but not as it exists today
Whatever else bohemia is
it is always yesterday

Time to catch a crabber
and crab walk out of town

And we're off
Adios San Francisco
I'll be back sooner next time

"San Francisco values"
"Pelosi Country"
"Far-left Socialists"

How we appeared to my remote cam
a half-hour earlier
like a time-shift camera in the Twilight Zone

 Back under the Bay Bridge
bound for the East Bay

 Never too far away

 The monumental will of mankind

 The Day draws away
as all days may

The man-made and the God-made
collide to coincide

Looking North
a carpet of marine fog
inexorably takes the Bay

Good old San Francisco
Mean old Frisco

Heading for Port
in elegant silence

So long it's been to know ya

Patrol boat going the other way

Entering the inner harbor

Intense looking kid next to me
Ought to  go into modeling
with those eye-brows

Part of a local family unit
No ostensible tourists today

Big shipping row

 All business on a weekday

On a scale the Ohlone
builders of graceful shell-mounds
could never have imagined

The Navy has had this gargantuan ship
for month's now

Right where the Society of the Spectacle
has its latest stadium planned

USS John Glenn
a beacon to all space-adventurers
counting my humble self

A mighty prow
plowing the waves
ever on

Suddenly the familiar
I'm back on the funky streets
of Port side Oakland

A spooky nook

Contemplating a coffee table
Indigo mirror filled with high clouds

Epilogue

Upstairs for a birthday brew
on the bonny bonny of Loch Lomond
Slainte
