May Goes Out Like a Lion

Police Procedural

29 May 2018

A chilly day before
the sun went down

Full Flower Moon
over the Police filling station

Craving escape
to the nearby Cineplex
this one seemed too trashy

The cops never run out of gas

It was a soft but colossal bore
but the seat was soft and I got
out of my pad for three hours
even had ice-cream in
nostalgia for serotonin uplift

It was all chill
getting out on deserted
Washington street
at midnight

Another noir sideshow
of crime and ruthlessness

 Next day
30 May 2018

Optical cirrus clouds
a real cold snap in the air

Shedding the shredded lambs
who wear shorts and t-shirts
Not even in foggy clouds
Blasts of  sunny wind at 7pm

Dinner time all vegetables were chopped
sweet potato boiled
and ready to go when I see
that I tossed out the wrong
olive oil bottle
I'm out of oil and must pack it off
via the 12 bus up the whole foods amazon
Strangers were declaimed to each other
that this was indeed too cold
49degrees feels like says my phone
and ocean gusts of winds
from beyond the Faralones
This after several days of summer tease
makes it all seem so cruel

The film started out
in Oakanda

Immemorial Memorial Day 3

Gorgeous weather for the holiday
hot and cool in its bifurcated way
Crown Beach had a crowd
the reason for my remote perspective

I remember my departed family
and friends

Through a worm hole tunnel
to find myself on the other side
 of the looking glass

Webster street
this venerable oasis for Irishman
recently closed it's doors for good

Boulder walls
Don't build them like that anymore
not since the Flintstones were on TV

Boulder holder
Spin rack of vintage
PLAYBOY

Somehow the Beagles
got involved

A wish that they all
could be California girls

Like this little doll
her own mad marine scientist
for the moment

We who are no strangers
to underwater experience

And aware of our scene
fear no sea monsters

Teenagers chill
mesmerized by the motion

Wow
it's like he has a problem

Not me I doffed my boots
to walk along the tide-flooded
walkway with the fishes
and the birds

My day enhanced by sparkling
Chemdawg y'all
Added some cannabis chocolate

The relentless approach
of rotary blades

But why?

A pestiferous helicopter
circled the beach for a half an hour

Planted on a bench
behind a shock of fennel
I shook my fist
up at the nuisance

It was just someone with
authoritarian access

No credible threat existed
and if someone took out
an assault rifle and shot up
the beach-goers
What could the helicopter do?
Shoot back?

 Mr  Big Shot
spoiling the workers holiday
because he can

I want to go under the water

Dive, dive, dive

Before I too
turn into
a curmudgeon fish

I want to observe
and make discoveries
like this little mermaid

Like how a skate

Settles down to the bottom

Like this sweet tyke
I want to pause a moment
in fish-based wonder

It's all open
it's our home
We come from there

I am as elemental
as a red rock lobster
from the primordial stew

Thus
I keep the big picture in mind
and keep  swimming
in a forward direction

With a little
prayer

a little help
from me ancestors

Immemorial Memorial Day, Part 2

 The Berkeley campus
Eucalyptus grove
cinematic
like the Archers

A beautiful day
the co-eds are out
stretching their threads

I'm stocking up today
on wonderful 29% THC
hybrid cannabis

Somewhat monumental gate
a reputation as a dangerous place
after dark years ago

A green peace
under the trees

Dappled landscape
day-lighting the creek

Water rushes
toward the end of May

A primordial cave left
by a great fallen tree

The eucalyptus
march on

 Redwood
towers over

They lead toward
some as yet indistinct
realization

I talk to the trees

Canopy
I'll take with me

Leaving the blue zone
the storied and mysterious
Eucalyptus grove

Back to the bus stop
observing the ladies of Berkeley
in their natural habitat

I've gone past
indoor outdoor dualism
I'm always outdoors
